Senior High – Leon, Nicaragua

El Ayudante is an incredible mission organization led by Bill and Teresia Cox.  Since 1999, mission teams have partnered with local Nicaraguans to change lives through construction, teaching Vacation Bible School and other ministry opportunities.  Peachtree Road has made a long term commitment to the people of a local neighborhood called William Fonseca.  We will work hard on a construction project, teach VBS and have an opportunity to serve at an orphanage as well.  Our day off will be spent touring Nicaragua and relaxing at the hotel!  Please visit www.nicamissions.com for more information.

Junior High - Asheville, North Carolina
July 17-23 - $425 per person for the week.
Join us for another incredible week as we head to ReCreation Experiences for the 8th year in a row!  Our days will be filled assisting a family in need with home improvements.  Through this effort, we will not only show our commitment to helping others, but we hope to share some memorable experiences with each other.   And of course, there is always time for fun too!  In the middle of our trip we will take a break to go whitewater rafting on the French Broad River.  Please visit www.recreationexperiences.org for more info.

From Last Year's Trip...

The Senior High Mission Trip to Leon, Nicaragua exceeded all of my expectations.  We stayed at El Ayudante, where we ate, slept, and hung out.  This year, we went to a new barrio called Trapichito.  In order to get to this barrio each day, we had to drive thirty minutes through rivers, mud, and unpaved roads. We didn’t know it the first day, but by the end of the week, this barrio would have a place in each of our hearts.

Monday started off with the whole group going to Trapichito to start construction on two classrooms. The work was broken down into different groups, and everyone was eager to start work.  The sun was already beating down on us.  After lunch at El Ayudante, the construction continued, and the classrooms were already starting to take shape.

On Tuesday, part of the group went to La Majada to teach Vacation Bible School.  For approximately 50 kids, we had a games station, a coloring book and snack station, a frame station, and a mural station. The kids were very welcoming, and they loved having us there! We also sang songs and told them a story about how we are all the same in God’s eyes.

On Wednesday morning, the entire group worked construction at Trapichito. In the afternoon, we visited a landfill at the church of Jerico.  We gave Pastor Felix 257 pairs of shoes to hand out to his congregation.  We also put together 70 food bags to distribute throughout the landfill community.   Families lived amongst all kinds of trash, from milk cartons to bags of dirt.  As we walked through the community, at each house, we asked each family what we could pray for, and then we all prayed together.  Every one of us was moved by what we saw at the landfill.  We reflected as a group later that day, and we all agreed that we would not be the same, and we would remember the families and keep them in our prayers.   We also visited the neighborhood of William Fonseca, where we had built houses the past two years.  It was so great to see all of our friends from the barrio.

On Thursday, half of our group went to Pablo Morales to teach Vacation Bible School while the other half went to Trapichito to continue building the classrooms.  The kids and the teachers were elated to see us and welcomed us with open arms.  On Thursday afternoon we worked as a group to continue work on construction at Trapichito.

Friday marked the end of the work week.  We all traveled to Trapichito in the morning, and half of us did Vacation Bible School for the kids, while the other half did construction.  After Vacation Bible School, we made a presentation to the teachers of all of the school supplies that we had collected.   In the back of our minds, we all knew that this was the last day that we could be with our new friends.  In the afternoon, we walked around the community and handed out food bags.  The afternoon ended with parts of the walls built and the floors leveled in each of the classroom.

This whole week taught me to be patient, because Vacation Bible School took more than one try to figure everything out.  It taught me to remember those that are in need through daily prayer.   Above all, it taught me that everyone in the world is equal in God’s eyes.
