Any amount toward this effort is appreciated and a sponsorship of $275 will provide a year of care for one of these children.

You may make an online contribution now by clicking here (Choose Sponsor a Child), or visit our tables at the church on February 20 and again on Outreach Sunday, February 27.

.... Peachtree Road's Georgia to Georgia Sponsor a Child Program
I have found the paradox that if I love until it hurts, then there is no hurt, but only more love.
Mother Teresa
.... .
Peachtree Road has the privilege each year to help those in the world that truly need us the most.  Through international efforts, we are allowed to provide sponsorships for 350 children in the country of Georgia.  These children, many with special needs, are either orphans, or social orphans, in a desperately impoverished region of the world.  Our small efforts make an incredible difference to these children, and most importantly, offer hope of a better life.

The following are some of the children our sponsorship program will aid.  Most listed here have special needs, but you can see all of our children by clicking here.  A sponsorship of any amount is appreciated and one of $275 will provide nutrition, medical and dental care for an entire year, for one child.  Please make plans now to share your love with these children.  We can't all be right there with these children, but we can all help provide for their basic needs.  Please share this with your small groups - Sunday School class, Bible study, book club, sports team - and with friends and family.  Many small groups sponsor a child and you can too!  Thank you!  (Click here to donate now online - choose Sponsor a Child.)

KharebaKhareba Jabadze is a 13 year-old boy at Chiatura.  He has both parents and two school- age brothers younger than Khareba (all the family members are, mercifully, healthy).
The family is very poor.  They live on a little pension which Khareba receives as a disabled child – around 15 USD per month!  Both parents are out from home all day long to find daily work and to try and earn money for the basic food for the children.  There is no caregiver at home to care for Khareba.
Khareba’s diagnosis is sad: he was born with cerebral palsy which accordingly caused physical and mental handicaps.  Khareba can not speak and move.  He needs permanent care – one caregiver is supposed to baby sit Khareba on a constant basis.  Khareba had lived at Gumati (Kutaisi) Disabled Children’s home in horrible conditions.  However, since recent monitoring the government closed that institution in the summer 2010 and Khareba was moved to Chiatura.  Name Khareba is an original Georgian name coming from the Bible; means the Great Announcement.

AnaAna Endeladze came to Rioni in the 6th grade in September 2008.  Before that she was at the Deaf School of Briansk, Russia.  She was born in 1994 and was born an invalid and diagnosed with “clippel-feily” syndrome – an at-birth disability of the spine which also caused deafness.  She underwent 4 surgeries:  1996, 2000, 2002 and the last in 2007.  At Briansk she also went to art school, she is very gifted.
Ana has a brother and their father used to work as a laborer in Russia.  Her mother is unemployed.  In July 2008 her father was killed in a car accident and since that time she has lived with her father’s family in Kutaisi (where Rioni is located).  Ana is very friendly and gets along well with her peers.  She loves the Georgian language and literature, but her real love is art.  Since November 2008 a private PRUMC donor has funded special art lessons for Ana and three other gifted deaf children.

MikheilMikheil (Mishiko) Tkemaladze was born on October 10, 1998.  His story is tragic.  He was abandoned immediately after his birth and thrown down at the neighbor’s door.  The family who found him was unable to have a baby so they adopted Mishiko.  When he reached 2 they discovered he was severely mentally handicapped.  Due to all the stress of trying to care for Mishiko, his adopted mother died in her early 40s.  The father had no choice but to give up Mishiko to Chiatura Institution. He is unable to care for himself and needs constant supervision.  He is not always able to communicate.  It was later discovered that Mishiko’s biological parents are also mentally handicapped and they gave birth to four cute, but mentally ill children.  At Chiatura Orphanage Mishiko is loved and cared for.

OtarLittle Otar Amaglobeli is one of the children who enjoyed all the benefits through Sponsor a Child Program. Otar is 7 years old. He has serious hearing problems: he is deaf and his ears do not have ear shells (outer part of the ear).  Otar has a younger healthy brother and a mother who is invalid and can not walk.  Otar’s father abandoned the family when he learned that the boy was not “quite normal”.  Otar can hear a little bit.  The family is very poor.  We have visited the family and found his living conditions just horrible.  In addition to his mother’s physical disability, she also shows some mental underdevelopment.  For instance she can never answer the simples of questions: how is Otar, what is he doing? …Otar is joyful and does not feel unhappy for his sickness.  He receives many good things at Rioni institution.  When he goes to home for the holidays he lacks the everyday necessities such as food, warm clothing, and a warm home, let alone any medicines.  But when he comes back, he joins his beloved friends and feels happy again!  Otar is a very attentive and smart child.  All the teachers admit his hardworking skills and enthusiasm to study well through the special program delivered to the deaf children at Rioni institution.

DitoDito was born on June 7th in 1996.  He is an orphan.  Both his parents died from different diseases.  Dito lives with his uncle.  Dito was born deaf.  Dito stays at Rioni institution and studies at 6th grade.  He is a smart and loving child.  He loves his peers and teachers.  He likes computers and football.  He is a very warm child.  He always takes care of his little friends.  He lives a happy life at Rioni.  On weekends his elder cousins take him to home, where he loves spending time with his uncle's family.   He is the happiest child.  He loved all the art projects we did this year!

AnastasiaAnastasia Giorgadze was born on March 1st, 2007.  She has both parents, grandmother, grandfather and two little brothers. The parents do not have jobs, the grandparents are elderly. They live on little retirement fee of the grandparents and symbolic monthly payments for the Socially Disadvantaged status. Anastasia is a smiling child, she does not perceive the life as gloomy and unfriendly as she receives all the benefits and love through the Sponsor a Child Program when staying at Kitski institution. At home the situation drastically changes and therefore, little Anastasia would prefer living at Kitski institution rather than going back to home.

KhomasuridzeThe Khomasuridze family live in far Chiatura village.  They have raised five children – the youngest are twin brothers – Demetre and Davit – 7 years old.  They both suffer from cerebral palsy with all the added complications which occur from malnutrition and improper medical care due to the social hardships of the family.  Their father abandoned the family as soon as the twins were born.  He did not wish to take responsibility for the disabled children.  The mother of the boys receives a tiny pension which totals $ 60 USD per month.  That is the reason why Khomasuridze twins are at Chiatura institution which is responsible for their care for 10 months a year.  A private donor from PRUMC recently purchased the boys a wheelchair.  The require constant supervision and must be carried upstairs to bed and to their classrooms.

GiorgiGiorgi Tabagari was born on Dec 23, 2002. He has got both parents and a sister - all of whom are healthy.  His physical development is consistent with his age, but in mental regards he is deeply retarded.  Giorgi suffers from inborn disease – Microtsephalia.  Giorgi can not take care of his hygienic needs. Basically half his brain is missing.  The family can hardly deal with daily meals for their children, let alone all of Giorgi’s medicines.  He really needs constant care which the family cannot provide.  Little Giorgi loves staying at Chiatura institution.  He feels happy with nice meals and toys.  He gets medicines upon need, plays football with his peers and keeps smiling when someone shows warmth and love.  He loves toy cars and foot ball.  Giorgi love his friends and caregivers. His family says they would be in huge trouble if there has not been the assistance provided through the Sponsor a Child Program.  This year one of our team members, Angelie, played her guitar and her singing was the one thing that calmed Giorgi!
