Recycle Your Life
The Recycle Your Life event removed 3,280 lbs of metal, plastic, glass, computer housing and peripheral equipment from being sent to the landfill. All materials will be recycled by Atlanta Recycling Solutions. Over 400 gallons of paint were collected to be reused, 100 boxes of paper shredded to be recycled and two trucks were filled with furniture, clothing and miscellaneous household items to be re-purposed through the Kidney Foundation. Additionally, 400 pairs of shoes were collected for our shoe drive. Be on the lookout for another Recycle Your Life event this fall and thank you to all the volunteers who made this possible.
PRUMC Awarded Green Grant!
PRUMC was recently awarded a grant from Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL) to retrofit the light fixtures in the Preschool Building from T-12’s to T-8’s. Ray Segars worked with Georgia Power to secure several related rebates for the project, so that PRUMC out–of-pocket expenses were minimal compared to the expected savings. In addition to the church saving about $1500 per year, this is how it translates in “earth” terms:
• Lbs of Carbon Dioxide saved 12,177
• Grams of Sulfur Dioxide saved 47,084
• Grams of Nitrogen Oxide saved 20,295
• Acres of Trees planted 2
• Number of Cars removed 1
• Gallons of Gas saved 738
Many thanks to Ray for his initiative in bringing this opportunity to our attention and helping us with the overall project! Watch for updates on similar opportunities coming this year. The Back 40
Thanks to the Green Team for cleaning and planting the Back 40 vegetable garden. Produce grown will be taken to a local homeless shelter. Also, check out our new compost bin, made from recycled wood and bamboo! The Flower Guild will be disposing of old flowers in the bin to make compost for the garden. PRUMC is closing the gap one step at a time.
