A Mother’s Love, Habitat, & You

“To everyone at Peachtree Road United Methodist, I appreciate you so much. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to build a Habitat home for my boys and show them that owning your own home is not impossible. They can do this. It’s possible. Thank you for everything you have done for me. God bless you.”

We were so touched to receive this letter (below) from Habitat homeowner Deena Wright and wanted to share her words with you. Her hard work in building a home and bright future for her boys is an inspiration to them and to us. Congratulations Deena on your new home and thank you Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and you, our generous, loving congregation for helping make stories and dreams like Deena’s possible each year.

    Dear Peachtree Road United Methodist,

Beginning the process of applying for and building my Habitat home, I knew from the start that if I wanted this to happen, I had to get everything together. I had to straighten out my bills and pay my car off. Getting everything together was hard work but the feeling of receiving that phone call and hearing that I was approved made everything worth it. Especially since this was my second time applying to be a Habitat homeowner.

Where I was living prior to my Habitat home was not a place I wanted to raise my sons. It was an income-based housing company and living there, I wasn’t giving my sons what they deserved. I wanted them to have the experience of growing up in a home that was theirs. I wanted them to see how it was living in a house that belonged to them and show them a different, better environment.

Owning my own home is going to feel incredible, especially since my boys will know what it’s like to be raised in a home where they can have cookouts, play in the yard, and for the first time, have rooms of their own. I know this will bring us closer as a family because we can do so much more together. I’m so excited for Friday game nights, movie nights and weekends cooking out in the yard. It’s going to feel so amazing to have a home of my own.

To everyone at Peachtree Road United Methodist, I appreciate you so much. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to build a Habitat home for my boys and show them that owning your own home is not impossible. They can do this. It’s possible. Thank you for everything you have done for me. God bless you.

    Warm regards,

    Deena Wright
