SUMMARY:3 Practices: Session II
DESCRIPTION:What do you do when you discover you are with someone who disagrees with you on politics or religion or important social issues? Most of us just do our best to avoid those conversations altogether. However\, is there a better way? Is there a way of engaging with others who think differently than we do that honors Christ? 3 Practices for Crossing the Difference Divide by Jim Henderson and Jim Hancock offers a process that seeks to do just that. The process focuses upon gaining clarity and understanding rather than agreement. These practices provide a framework so you can have healthy conversations on a variety of topics. This fall\, our own Claire Bowen will offer a workshop to introduce you to this framework so you can learn to live by the three practices also. The workshop will be presented on two different dates\, and you can choose the one more convenient to you. We hope this will help serve as a tool for you to use in the days to come. \nRegister here. \nSession II Sunday\, November 3\, 12:30 – 3:00 pm\nLed by Claire Bowen\, Certified Circle Leaders\, and PRUMC Clergy \n

SUMMARY:The Spirit of Our Politics Forum with Michael Wear
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special forum hosted by the Deep Waters Bible Study featuring Michael Wear and his book\, The Spirit of our Politics: Spiritual Formation and the Renovation of the Public Life. \nMichael is an author\, speaker\, and the President and CEO of the Center for Christianity and Public Life. His book The Spirit of our Politics observes that political division is negatively shaping who we are becoming. He calls for a new approach to politics that fosters healing over hatred and inspires hope rather than despair. \nJoin us as we seek to find healing and hope despite our differences. \nREGISTER HERE \n“I have seen our politics up close. I’ve briefed a president in the Oval Office. I’ve been a participant in our political and public life for nearly two decades. I’ve seen communities change and lives made better because of politics\, just as I’ve seen the opposite. What I can promise you is that it is people who make the difference\, and it does not take many people acting differently to make a difference in our politics and in people’s lives. Spiritual formation is central to civic renewal.” Michael Wear

SUMMARY:Journey Together Begins
DESCRIPTION:Restored: Finding Redemption in Our Mess by Tom Berlin \nLed by Janice McGalliard and Rev. Leslie Watkins\n6 weeks\n– \n\nOften\, we make a mess of our lives and wonder if there is any redemption. In this book\, pastor and author Tom Berlin helps us see our mess through the eyes of Christ to find redemption and restoration. Using Scripture\, devotional tools\, and the writings of Ignatius of Loyola\, John of the Cross\, St. Augustine\, John Wesley\, Evelyn Underhill\, and others\, Berlin encourages reflection and meditation through our own brokenness. Only then can we focus on the cross as the place where we truly surrender control\, leave our mess\, and find redemption.

SUMMARY:Grace Point Begins
DESCRIPTION:The Gospel of Matthew \nLed by Laura Davis and Rev. Elizabeth Byrd\n10 weeks\n– \n\nThroughout the Gospel of Matthew\, we are invited to see Jesus’ ministry and teachings as not just hopeful ideals but as actionable ways to live – faithfully following Jesus in all things. The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most well-known and significant teachings of Jesus recorded in the Gospel of Matthew\, Chapters 5–7. It presents a collection of Jesus’ ethical teachings and spiritual guidance\, delivered to his disciples and a gathered crowd on a hillside near Capernaum\, and is foundational to our living as followers of Jesus today. Join us as we explore these teachings from Jesus and how they shape our faith. \nWomen of all ages and stages of life are invited to join us as we study Scripture\, renew our faith\, and experience the grace of God together.
