Give Thanks to God

May 14, 2021

Dear Peachtree Road Family,

I hope you are well. I want to begin this week’s note with a reminder that the memorial service for our Senior Minister Emeritus Don Harp is tomorrow, May 15, at 11:00 am in the sanctuary. The story of Peachtree Road UMC cannot be told without the acknowledgment that Don’s twenty-years as the Senior Minister are the most consequential in the church’s history. Through his inspirational leadership, he set this great church on a solid foundation, and its outreach is felt not only here in Atlanta but around the world. Tomorrow we will gather to celebrate his life and give thanks to God for sending him our way. The service will be livestreamed through the church website.

Last Sunday was a good day here at Peachtree Road as we experienced the relaxing of some of our protocols due to the pandemic. You now do not need to make a reservation to come to worship, and we no longer are taking your temperature upon entering the building. It certainly was good to see folks back in worship at both 8:30 am and 11:15 am. Of course, last Sunday was Mother’s Day, and we received an offering to support the ministry of Wesley Woods. Thank you for your generous donations that will make a difference in the lives of so many senior adults in our community. If you have not had an opportunity to give yet, it is not too late. You may make your check payable to Peachtree Road UMC, mark it for Wesley Woods, and send it to the church. The most convenient way to give is online, and you may make your donation through the church website. I am grateful for your participation in this offering.

This week in worship, at the 11:15 am worship service, we will take time to honor our church’s Graduating High School Seniors. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the last two school years for these students have been disrupted in significant ways. Much of their course work has been conducted online. Sports, proms, and honors days either were canceled or altered. Through it all this class has persevered, and we want them to know how proud we are of them. At the close of the service on Sunday, we will have an opportunity to hear from each student and then offer a blessing upon them. I hope you will join me as we, along with their parents, grandparents, and loved ones, rejoice in their achievement.

Finally, let me share several opportunities with you:
