Growing in Faith

    April 30, 2021

    Dear Peachtree Road Family,

I hope you are well. I want to begin this week’s note by letting you know that last week we were pleased to welcome this year’s Confirmation Class. It happened during a special service at 10:00 am in the sanctuary at which we hosted these sixth graders and their families for a meaningful time of worship. Nearly 70 students made a profession of faith in Christ and joined the church, and it was so wonderful to have them together at one time. They especially are to be commended because the entire class was conducted virtually. For nine months, they met every Sunday morning, participated in break-out groups through Zoom, and grew in their faith. I am so grateful to Chris Mucha, his associate youth directors, and the lay leadership team that led this effort. The future of the church is bright!

This Sunday also will be a wonderful time of worship as we celebrate the ministry of Music and Arts here at Peachtree Road. Our church is known for “heavenly music,” and musicians will be spread throughout the sanctuary as we highlight their talents and contributions to our worship. The Atlanta Brassworks, Celebration Singers Children’s Choir, Doxology Youth Choir, and Chancel Choir will be sharing music with us, and our associate minister Rev. Carolyn Stephens will be preaching.

There is nothing like hearing the music of Peachtree Road in person. If you would like to be in the sanctuary for Sunday’s service, I encourage you to make a reservation here. This is the last Sunday you will need to make a reservation. Beginning next week, May 9, we will offer two services (8:30 am and 11:15 am) and no prior reservation will be required. We will ask that once on campus, you register your attendance to help us in case we need to be in touch with you later for contact tracing purposes. Certainly, you are welcome to worship with us online each week as we offer the service through the church website. I hope you will join us Sunday.

This Sunday also marks the return of Children’s Sunday School at the 10:00 am hour. It has been a long year, and we now are ready to safely welcome our elementary school age children back to campus. You can find all the details and register here. Please note that you still need to register your child for the nursery during worship, and that is done separately. Childcare for the 11:15 am worship service is for ages kindergarten and younger. Older children are invited to enjoy worship with their family in the sanctuary.

Don’t forget about your opportunity to support this year’s Sponsor a Child initiative. Many of you know about our ministry in the nation of Georgia and the impact it makes on the lives of children. Last Sunday we heard from Lynn Banks as she shared how you are helping break the cycle of generational poverty in that country. Your sponsorship of $365 would sustain a child for an entire year through access to food, medical care, and education. Your gift literally would change the direction of a child’s life! I encourage you to watch the mission podcast with our director of Global Outreach Dawn Hawkins and Lynn on our website and plan to financially support a child in Georgia. You may give online hereor make your check payable to Peachtree Road UMC and mark it for “Sponsor a Child.” Thank you for your generosity.

Finally, let me suggest that you visit the church’s website to a find a page dedicated to the memory of our Senior Minister Emeritus Don Harp. There you will find pictures, several audio sermons, and information about the upcoming memorial service on Saturday, May 15, at 11:00 am to celebrate his life. He was a remarkable man who made a difference in our community and will be missed.

Thank you for your faithfulness in so many ways. I pray that you remain safe and healthy in these days as we come out of the pandemic. Please call on me if ever I may be of help to you.

    Grace and peace,

    Bill
