Looking Ahead

July 22, 2022

Dear Peachtree Road Family,

I hope you are well. Sunday promises to be another good day in worship here at Peachtree Road as we continue our “Summer in the City” services. Our theme for the month of July is “At the Movies with Disney,” and each week, we are considering the biblical themes found in some of our favorite Disney films. We already have reflected upon The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pocahontas. If you would like to rewatch those messages, you may click here.

This week’s message invites us to consider the biblical lessons found in the movie “Aladdin.” Our associate minister Elizabeth Byrd will be preaching on what might be my favorite animated Disney film of all time. Certainly, the music promises to be familiar and uplifting. Some of you may be out of the city during these summer weekends, but I hope that when you are in town, you will participate in worship with your church family at Peachtree Road UMC. Reminder: immediately following the services, you are invited to a time of fellowship in front of the church. Lemonade and cookies will be served under the trees. Please join us Sunday either in person at 8:45 am, 10:00 am, or 11:15 am or online at www.prumc.org.

Opportunities to enrich your life:

Journeys of Paul Cruise – Jamie Jenkins and I will lead a group to visit many of the sites the Apostle Paul visited on his missionary journeys: Athens, Corinth, Philippi, Ephesus, Thessalonica, and others. The trip is set for October 23-31, 2023, and the unique feature of this cruise is that it will be a “United Methodist” trip. We are joining Adam Hamilton and members of Church of the Resurrection UMC in Kansas City, Davis Chappell and members of Brentwood UMC in Nashville, and Bishop Bill McAlilly and members of the Tennessee Annual Conference to sail on a chartered ship to explore the life and journeys of Paul. Brochures will be available very soon, and registration is set to open in the near future. It promises to sell out quickly, so make your plans to join us for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the land of Paul with other United Methodists. For more information, please contact Jamie Jenkins at jamiej@prumc.org.

Hospitality Ministry – preparations are in full swing to welcome folks back to church in September. That includes recruiting new persons to for our hospitality teams:

  •  Ushers
  • Ambassadors
  • Acolytes
  • Altar Guild
  • Flower Guild
  • Sanctuary Guild
  •  Pew Greeter
  • Parking Lot Greeters

We have filled all of our Ambassador teams but are still short on Ushers and Parking Lot Greeters. We will continue to recruit persons for these teams throughout July and will be offering a general training event in hospitality on Sunday, August 21, at 1:30 pm (immediately following the church-wide barbeque picnic!). If you are interested in joining the hospitality ministry of Peachtree Road, please let us know by emailing our associate minister Elizabeth Byrd (elizabethb@prumc.org). Thank you for your help.

New Members – are you interested in learning more about Peachtree Road UMC and possibly becoming a member? If so, I would like to invite you to “Tea with the Clergy” on Sunday, August 21 at 5:00 pm in the Hospitality Suite. We would love to meet you, share a little about the ministry of Peachtree Road UMC, and possibly help you become a member of this great church. Please contact Elizabeth Byrd (elizabethb@prumc.org) for more information or to sign up.

Finally, I want to encourage you to offer your suggestions for sermons for next year. I am set to begin my planning for next year and would love to have your help. Please share your suggestions through the survey linked here. This survey will be open for the next two weeks (through July 31). Thank you for your help.

Grace and peace,

Bill
