Mother’s Day Offering for Wesley Woods

    Dear Peachtree Road Family,

One of the most difficult aspects of the “stay in place” order during this COVID 19 pandemic for me has been not being able to visit my mother. She lives in an assisted living facility in my hometown of Thomaston, and visitors are not allowed in the facility. I understand. As an 86 year-old woman with a plethora of medical issues, she is a perfect example of those who are most vulnerable to this virus. My brother, sister, and I have been dependent upon the care of others for the wellbeing of our mother, and we are grateful.

My mother is typical of many of our older adults during this time. Fortunately, here in Atlanta we have an incredible ministry in Wesley Woods that is there for them and us. Wesley Woods is a geriatric residence started by United Methodists in North Georgia in 1953. As of today, there has yet to be a serious outbreak of COVID-19 at any of the Wesley Woods facilities, and many attribute this fact to the precautions they took well before the Governor’s mandate including testing of residents and staff in some facilities and thorough cleanings conducted by the national guard in others. If my mother lived in Atlanta, we would want her in a Wesley Woods facility!

Each year on Mother’s Day, United Methodist congregations from throughout the North Georgia Conference receive an offering for Wesley Woods to provide affordable residential and healthcare services for older adults of all income levels, races, and faiths. Did you know that 75% of the residents of Wesley Woods require some form of financial assistance to remain in their homes each year? And 40% of these actually are living below the poverty level. However, because of the generosity of Methodist people from throughout North Georgia, Wesley Woods is able to provide the assistance many older adults need. Your giving changes lives!

This Mother’s Day my gift to Wesley Woods will be given in honor of my mother, and I hope you will join me in remembering your mother as well. Though we physically will not be together for worship, I hope you will place your gift to Wesley Woods using the link here.

Historically Peachtree Road has led the way on this offering, and I hope you will help us support some of our most vulnerable during the days of this pandemic.

I am grateful for your generous support of this important ministry!

    Bill
