Dear Peachtree Road Family,
I hope you are well. Sunday promises to be another good day in worship here at Peachtree Road UMC as we continue our “Summer in the City” services. Our theme for this month is “At the Movies with Disney,” and each week we are considering the biblical themes found in some of our favorite family films produced by the Walt Disney Company. Last week we focused upon “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and remembered the adage that appearances can be deceiving. The message also encouraged us to be more curious about one another and less judgmental. I hope you found the service helpful.
This week’s message invites us to consider the biblical lessons found in the movie “Pocahontas.” Our associate minister Josh Miles will be preaching, and the music promises to familiar and uplifting. I know that many of you are out of the city during these summer weekends, but I hope that when you are in town, you will participate in worship with your church family at Peachtree Road UMC.
Reminder: immediately following the services, you are invited to a time of fellowship in front of the church. Lemonade and cookies will be served under the trees. Please join us Sunday either in person at 8:45 am, 10:00 am, or 11:15 am or online at www.prumc.org.
Our Chancel Choir has been invited to be the choir in residence at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin the week of August 1-7. There, they will be leading daily worship in that historic church and sharing the good news about Jesus Christ in song. On Sunday evening, July 17, they will offer a concert at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary to preview the music they will be sharing. I hope you will join me as we offer a blessing upon their journey.
As we prepare to return to our normal fall schedule in September, we have an opportunity to reach out to our neighbors and help folks who are yearning for spiritual community. As a part of our preparation, we are recruiting new persons to be on our hospitality teams:
- Altar Guild
- Flower Guild
- Sanctuary Guild
- Pew Greeter
- Parking Lot Greeters
We have nearly filled all of our Ambassador teams but are still short on Ushers and Parking Lot Greeters. We will continue to recruit persons for these teams throughout July and will be offering a general training event in hospitality on Sunday, August 21, at 1:30 pm (immediately following the church-wide barbeque picnic!). If you are interested in joining the hospitality ministry of Peachtree Road, please let us know by emailing our associate minister Elizabeth Byrd (firstname.lastname@example.org). We will be reaching out to our neighbors and inviting them to Peachtree Road in September and want to be ready to offer them a warm and gracious welcome. Thank you for your help.
Finally, I want to solicit your help on upcoming sermons. Now is the time that I begin my planning for next year. We are blessed here at Peachtree Road to worship in rooms that have been designed to remind us that we are in the presence of God. Just entering the sanctuary or the Moore Chapel fills us with a sense of awe and reverence. And the music we hear stirs our souls and draws us together. We also want the messages to be helpful and relevant to your life. Therefore, I want to hear from you. Please share with me your suggestions for sermon topics for next year through the survey linked here. This survey will be open for the next two weeks (through July 31). Thank you for your help.
Also, thank you for your faithful support of the ministry of Peachtree Road in so many ways. I pray that God will continue to bless you and keep you.
Grace and peace,
