Ukraine War

Prayers, Support and Relief for Ukraine

Through your giving, PRUMC is providing critical, immediate, humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people. We have partnered with Mt. Pisgah UMC, who has close mission relationships in Ukraine. We are financially assisting a United Methodist Church in Kyiv and one in Lviv as they provide food, shelter and transportation for refugees fleeing from the conflict. We are also connecting with a UMC pastor in Kharkiv, one of the most devastated areas to date, to understand their needs at this time. You have seen these cities in the news.

The humanitarian crisis continues to escalate, but together, we are making a difference by providing financial assistance so that these pastors can continue to be the hands and feet of Christ as their churches are being turned into shelters.

You may give to the “Disaster Relief/Ukraine” fund at prumc.org/give, or send a check payable to PRUMC with a notation for Ukraine Relief. (If mailing, please send to the attention of Dawn Hawkins.) We also continue to support UMCOR as they mobilize their efforts in the region. You may give to UMCOR directly, or you may send a check to PRUMC with UMCOR specified in the memo line.

We can also make a difference with our prayers. While we cannot share names of these pastors or their churches due to safety, we do ask you to specifically pray for each of them as they work tirelessly to meet the needs for food, shelter and medical care in their communities. Please continue to pray for God’s protection for all of Ukraine. PRUMC will provide opportunities for us to join in prayer together, over the coming weeks.

Ukraine Aid Update | March 30
“These days are busy and it’s really hard to find a quiet time for correspondence. My body is exhausted, but my spirit is strong, so I fall asleep everywhere I find a place to sit. We continue helping refugees as well as local people, those who are in financial and spiritual need during this most difficult time, the time of war. At this point, we have recognized that there are many families who have fled the war, come to our city Lviv and the region and need financial support, as they are running without savings and it is now impossible to find work and they are hungry and tired. We continue to help with their needs.”

Service of Prayer for Ukraine
O Lord our Governor, whose glory is in all the world: We commend our world to your merciful care, that, being guided by your divine direction, we may dwell secure in your peace. Grant to President Zelenski and all world leaders and to all in authority the wisdom and strength to know and to do your will. Fill them with the love of truth and righteousness, and make them ever mindful of their calling to serve, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers for Ukraine
My name is Alyona Ladyzheva. I am from Ukraine, from the northernmost town of the country, the town of Slavutych, which borders Belarus. This town was built after the Chernobyl accident for those people, such as my family, who responded to and liquidated this terrible world catastrophe, risking their lives, continuing to ensure the safe operation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant for the whole world, including Belarus and Russia for all these years. For 20 years, I worked on projects to create the largest movable structure - an arch over the destroyed nuclear block of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, in order to protect the world of nuclear danger.
