We are excited to welcome Josh Miles to the clergy staff of PRUMC on July 11, 2021!
Josh Miles is a native of Athens, Ga. and Athens First United Methodist Church. Josh got an early taste for life behind a news desk in the fifth grade when he served as a renowned anchor and sports reporter for Barnett Shoals Elementary Television. Go Bears! Josh went on to play basketball and tennis in middle and high school and dreamed of working for ESPN and becoming famous for his sports coverage. In pursuit of a career in sports journalism, Josh completed his Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill and then earned a Master’s degree in Telecommunications at UGA.
In his time at UNC, Josh served in several positions of leadership at the campus Wesley Foundation. At UGA, Josh wrote high school sports stories for the Athens Banner-Herald Newspaper, broadcasted Clarke Central High School football games for Gladiator Internet TV, and served with small groups and the youth at Athens First UMC. Josh never got the call he desired from ESPN, but he did answer the call from the Lord to ministry in the local church. So even though his dreams of a career in sports broadcasting have been far surpassed by serving the church, Josh remains passionate about college sports and can often be heard singing college marching band fight songs throughout the day.
Josh joined the staff at Athens First UMC in 2013, and led the church’s youth ministry from 2014-2020. In May 2020, Josh graduated from Candler School of Theology with a Masters of Divinity. He then started preaching weekly for a new online worship service at Athens First UMC, Common Heart. Josh is on the elder track to be ordained in the United Methodist Church.
