The Peachtree Hens
Gifts from the Dogwood Shop
Each year, the proceeds from our church gift shop, The Dogwood, are used to provide for our global partners.
As part of the 2024 gift, proceeds were used to purchase chickens in Costa Rica for Rice and Beans Ministry (RABMIN). The donation provided 500 Isa Brown chickens and the construction of the chicken coop, including the concrete flooring, feeding and watering system, building structure and roof.
The eggs are used to support 8,500 local children in 41 schools with bi-monthly food deliveries. RABMIN grows fresh produce in greenhouses on its basecamp, including fresh lettuce, vegetables, and fruit. The deliveries supplement what is provided by the government to the children, enabling the meals to be healthier and go further. For most, this is their only meal of the day.
The “Peachtree Hens,” donated by Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, produce 13,500 eggs a month for the community. The eggs are shelf-stable for 40 days.
