Dear Peachtree Road Family,

I hope you are well. I also hope you realize how blessed we are here at Peachtree Road UMC. Over the last few weeks, we have blessed babies born to members of our congregation within the last year, celebrated the ministry of The Preschool at PRUMC with its 300+ students, confirmed the faith of 59 youth, and offered a blessing upon the 48 high school seniors set to graduate later this month. These are all signs of a vital church!

This Sunday also promises to be a wonderful time of worship as we celebrate the ministry of Music and Arts here at Peachtree Road. The opening hymn will be “When in Our Music God Is Glorified,” and musicians will be spread throughout the sanctuary as we highlight their talents and contributions to our worship. The Atlanta Brassworks, Peachtree Carillon, combined children’s choirs, Doxology Youth Choir, and Chancel Choir will share music with us. You are invited to attend and lend your voice as we celebrate the gift of music in our church. If you are unable to attend, please join us online at 8:45 am, 10:00 am, or 11:15 am at www.prumc.org.

Following worship, a fellowship luncheon will be served in Grace Hall. The menu includes chicken piccata, herbed rice pilaf, Italian green beans, and tiramisu. The meal is complimentary, and our hosts for the day are members of our music ministry. Please join us for a delicious meal and warm fellowship with your friends from Peachtree Road UMC.

On Sunday evening at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary, the music celebration will continue with the Centennial Concert entitled “Celebrate the Joy! 100 Years of Music Making.” I have received a preview of the concert which will feature some of our favorite hymns, anthems (yes, “The Dream Isaiah Saw” and “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” are included!), and the world premiere of a commissioned anthem for this occasion by Philip Stopford entitled “Behold, the Tabernacle of God.” Musicians will include the Chancel Choir, Doxology Youth Choir, The Georgia Boy Choir, members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and our talented conductor, Scott Atchison, and organist, Jon Easter. John Lemley will narrate the concert. You may be interested in reading the StoryBook article on the church’s music ministry here

Continuing with opportunities to hear good music…

  • Doxology Youth Choir PreTour Concert – on Sunday, May 11, you are invited to hear Doxology in concert as they present “All in All” at 10:00 am in Grace Hall. This is a special preview concert featuring music from their upcoming choir tour to Wyoming where they perform and explore the natural beauty of our national parks. There is no charge for the concert, and all are welcome to attend.

Are you interested in becoming a member of Peachtree Road UMC? Please join us Sunday, May 18, at 12:30 pm for lunch and “Tea with the Clergy.” You will have an opportunity to meet our ministerial staff, learn about the history and ministry of the church, ask questions, and discover where you fit into the ministry of this great church. We already have a number of folks signed up for this month’s gathering. If you would like to take the next step in your growth as a Christian and become a member of Peachtree Road UMC, please contact our director of evangelism and hospitality, Brittany Charron, at brittanyc@prumc.org.

Finally, last week, we announced the launch of the Centennial Celebration Capital Campaign. When someone celebrates a birthday, it’s customary to give them a gift. Peachtree Road UMC has been a blessing to all of our lives, and I encourage you to join me in making a three-year pledge to help position our church well for the beginning of the next century. You should have received a campaign packet in the mail this week. It outlines the projects we hope to fund:

  • HVAC Chiller Debt Payment                                    $3,200,000
  • Rollins Center Portico Construction                         $1,200,000
  • Centennial Concerts and Events                             $400,000
  • Welcome Home Village                                            $1,400,000
  • Prayer Labyrinth and Amphitheater                          $100,000
  • Endowment Fund                                                     $1,000,000
  • Plaza on Peachtree                                                  $3,200,000
  • Capital Reserve Fund                                               $1,000,000

Total                              $11,500,000

A quiet phase has been underway for the last two months, and we will be announcing the results of that effort in worship on May 18. I hope every member of Peachtree Road will participate in this campaign as we give thanks for God’s help in ages past and our hope for years to come.

Thank you for your faithfulness in so many ways. I look forward to being with you Sunday morning and Sunday evening as we celebrate the gift of music in our congregation.

Grace and peace,

Bill
