September 8, 2023

Dear Peachtree Road Family, I hope you are well. My message to you today is this: “It is time.” The summer is over. Many of you have been worshiping online while enjoying time away from the city, but now it is time to press the reset button on your spiritual life and come back to Peachtree Road UMC. Sunday marks “Fall Kick-off,” and I want to suggest five good reasons to make attendance this week a priority:

-The music, both congregational singing and the choir’s anthem, will be inspiring
-The Georgia Boy Choir and the Atlanta Brassworks will accompany the Chancel Choir
-New members who recently joined to Peachtree Road UMC on August 27 will be recognized and more new members will be received during the 11:15 am service
-At the close of worship, a fried chicken luncheon will be served in Grace Hall from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm All of your Peachtree Road friends will be there!

On Sunday we will begin a new sermon series emphasizing the life of prayer entitled “The Disciples’ Prayer.” Each week you are invited to Peachtree Road UMC as we reflect upon the model prayer Jesus taught his disciples:
September 10 Matthew 6:5-9  Our Father…
September 17 Matthew 6:10-11  Your Will Be Done…
September 24 Matthew 6:12-15. Forgive Us as We Forgive…
I hope you will make an effort to attend each week as we deepen our relationship with Christ who welcomes us to his table.

In addition to worship, please note the following upcoming opportunities:

Adult Bible Studies – you may register now for our fall adult study offerings which include Sunday School, Disciple Bible Study, women’s studies, men’s studies, and other short-term classes throughout the week. Over 200 persons have already signed up, and we encourage you to come grow with us this season. Please check our website for offerings and times at
One Lamb Mental Health Initiative Forums: Let’s Talk: Raising Our Children for Mental Wellness – Sunday, September 17, at 10:00 am in Heritage Hall. This forum will be led by Andrea Petsche, Director of The Preschool at Peachtree Road UMC, as she moderates a panel of experts in the field of child development.
Lessons from the Valley: What We Learn in Times of Loss – Sunday, September 24, at 10:00 am in the Sanctuary. Ron Greer, Director of the Pastoral Counseling Center at Peachtree Road UMC, will speak on grief and how healing can come from engaging the mourning of our significant losses. His new book entitled The Quiet House is now available in The Dogwood Gift Shop.
Twenty/20 for Young Adults – Sunday, September 24, at 6:00 pm in the Hospitality Suite. Doug Hurd from Skyland Trail will speak with young adults ages 22-30 on how to recognize when you’re struggling and how to help yourself and others through periods of anxiety or depression. You may learn more about each of these by visiting the One Lamb website at

Finally, let me offer you a way to deepen your faith – daily prayer. As the new school year begins, your church is offering you a way to begin each day with prayer. Just sign up for our daily prayer. A prayer written by one of our ministers or member of Peachtree Road UMC will be emailed to you every day, first thing in the morning. Sign up here for the daily prayer.

I am grateful for your faithfulness in so many ways to the ministry of Peachtree Road. We are set for a wonderful fall season, and I hope you will find your place with us!

Grace and peace,
